Karina Wilgan spent the past three months (22.09.2014-15.12.2014) on a EU COST Action ES1206 Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich).
During the STSM she conducted a study on parameterized refractivity models and GNSS path delays. For various applications it is necessary to know the values of tropospheric parameters at locations that do not coincide with actual measurement locations. The Geodesy and Geodynamics Lab at ETH Zurich has developed a software package COMEDIE (Collocation of Meteorological Data for Interpretation and Estimation of Tropospheric Pathdelays) to interpolate and extrapolate meteorological parameters from real measurements to the arbitrary locations. Karina has used the COMEDIE algorithms to calculate the total refractivity field over a part of Switzerland. In the future she is planning to include Polish datasets: ground-based meteorological observations, path delays, radiosoundings and numerical weather prediction models into COMEDIE routines.
