National Science Centre announced that the project: “GNSS observations as a numerical weather prediction data source, a way forward to enhanced forecasts quality” is going to be supported for 36 months starting from October 2014. Team lead by Dr Witold Rohm together with scientists from University of Wroclaw (Dr Maciej Kryza with a team) will tackle issues of GNSS signal assimilation in numerical weather prediction models. We aim to improve weather forecasting, particularly for severe precipitation events, humidity and clouds.

In the course of this project following problems will be addressed: 1) The unique methodology for GNSS Slant Total Delay (STD) estimation will be developed, 2) The method to effectively assimilate the STDs into the NWP model will
be investigated, 3) The impact of the GNSS data assimilation on NWP models performance will be derived for the area of Poland.
