On October 24, 2013, in Warsaw, Poland, European Space Agency (ESA) signed contracts with Polish companies and research institutions in framework of ESA’s first contest for polish space sector. Among the projects funded, one proposal concerns precise ionosphere modeling to improve GNSS positioning in Poland. The project is named “Precise IOnospheric Modeling For Improved GNSS Positioning in Poland” (PIOM-FIPP). The studies are conducted by the consortium of research teams from the University of Warmia and Mazury, the Technical University of Catalonia and GNSS&Meteo working group from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. Results will be implemented into ground and space augmentation systems for navigation and positioning (e.g. EGNOS), and will be a step forward in the development of the European Galileo system. The contract value is EUR 100.000 for a 12-months research period.
